All volunteers must complete clearances and sign a Code of Conduct prior to volunteering at The Beacon. Please contact Nick, nick.mcmichael@fnofpa.org, with questions.
Purpose: The Snack Distribution volunteer is responsible for providing clients with the appropriate snack during Beacon operating hours.
Duties:
- Greet customers and take their ticket (they will receive one at check-in)
- Select snacks from the selection that had been chosen prior to the opening of the Beacon
- Offer clients a choice of snack (chips, pretzels, dessert, etc)
- Direct customers to Beverage Distribution Volunteer
- Keep the snack distribution area clean and free of spills
- Occasionally help keep snacks in order
- Attend any relevant trainings
- Seek support from staff for unusual challenges
- Other office duties as assigned
Qualifications:
- Friendly demeanor
- Desire to serve others
- Willingness to follow directions
- Ability to work as part of a team
- Ability to remain calm in stressful situations
Physical Demands:
- Ability to lift, push, and pull up to 10 pounds repetitively and safely
- Ability to tolerate walking and standing on hard surfaces for up to 4 hours at a time
- Ability to bend, reach, and grasp food items
Training and Support:
Snack Distribution volunteers will receive an orientation to the Beacon from the Beacon Resource Center Supervisor prior to starting the position. New volunteers will shadow experienced Snack Distribution volunteers prior to working alone. All volunteers will receive as needed training applicable to their position.
Time Commitment:
Time commitment varies depending on volunteer availability. A typical shift will be 3-4 hours 1-4 days per week. If unable to commit to a regular weekly shift, volunteers may opt to be placed on an alternate list to be called whenever there is a volunteer absence.
