Background History of the project:
A series of 14 garden boxes with native plants were installed on SpartanGreen 2024 by Spartan Volunteer Network, York City Public Works, Beekeeping Club, and Plant & Gardening Club and student volunteers representing Greek life, athletic groups, and other clubs. They are located on the intersections of Jackson-- Jessop, Manor, and Pershing. This is as an on-going community project to help with storm-drain flooding and plant overgrowth.
Tasks of this service day:
You will work together to service all 14 boxes. Some boxes will require more work than others.
- Pick-up trash/ litter around garden and Jackson St.
- Weeding the garden
Meeting spot:
Wolf Lawn 8:40AM-8:50AM for check-in and gathering with your Team Leader and group, then you will all walk together towards Jackson Street.
Transportation: Volunteers will walk to the project location.
Materials:
Gloves, garbage bags, scissors, and other hand tools will be provided by Spartan Volunteer Network and Plant and Gardening Club.
Attire:
Please wear your SpartanServe shirts and bring a water bottle! Wear comfortable clothes for getting dirty in the gardens and closed-toe shoes such as sneakers or boots. If you have a SpartanServe t-shirt from last year, please wear it. If you need a SpartanServe t-shirt, please stop by the Spartan Volunteer Network (Humanities 125) on Wednesday October 30th between 9:00am-4:00pm to pick-up your shirt.
