- About Lancaster Conservancy: The Lancaster Conservancy protects and restores 10,000 acres on 50 nature preserves in Lancaster and York Counties.
- About the project: Join us as we work to restore forest and grassland habitat! We have ongoing restoration work happening at the Wizard Ranch Nature Preserve in Hellam Township. This work is reversing centuries of neglect by removing invasive plants, planting native species which protects and restores native biodiversity.
- Volunteer responsibilities: Under the supervision of Lancaster Conservancy staff, Volunteers will use hand tools to remove invasive shrubs and vines from a section of the preserve that is undergoing ecological restoration.
- Volunteer requirements
- Dress for the weather, wear sturdy closed toed shoes and clothes you don’t mind getting muddy and possibly torn by thorns on shrubs.
- Each person needs to review and complete the Lancaster Conservancy Liability Release. Blank copies of this form will be available on the morning of the project.
- Participant age is 16 and up. Participants under 18 need to be accompanied by a parent.
- Date and Time: April 13 from 1-3 PM
- Supplies provided: Work gloves, tools, and drinking water are provided. There is a port-a-pot on site.
- Location: Wizard Ranch Nature Preserve, Accomac Rd, Hellam Township, York, PA.
- Transportation: This opportunity is open to volunteers who provide their own transportation. SVN student staff will also work with volunteers to determine whether a carpool and/or shuttle will be available as a transportation option. If either of these options become available, volunteers will be notified.
- Driving instructions: Wizard Ranch Nature Preserve comes up on google maps. We will meet in the parking lot at the preserve.
