Help the Horn Farm Center winterize our 8-acre riparian buffer while learning about perennial plants, ecology, and ways to restore local waterways.
- Overview & responsibilities
- we're seeking volunteers to help us winterize hundreds of trees across our budding riparian buffer. This yearly maintenance work is critical as we reclaim 16 acres of formerly-farmed streamside areas for the revitalization of soil, water, and local habitat.
- As the young trees that dot our landscape settle into their winter dormancy, now is the time to ensure they're protected and primed for the challenges of the cold-season.
- Volunteers will help us check and right tree tubes, manage invasives, plant last-minute saplings, and fortify tree bases with rocks to prevent vole damage during the winter.
- Transportation:
- Volunteers are invited to provide their own transportation.
- SVN staff will coordinate with volunteers to arrange a carpool if possible, but carpools are not guaranteed.
- Supplies: The Community Partner will provide supplies. Volunteers who have their own gloves are encouraged to bring them.
- Signing up:
- Please click "respond" on this SVN volunteer listing, so that you can submit your hours after the project concludes.
- Volunteers MUST ALSO complete the Horn Farm registration form for this event, prior to the project day. Click this link to register.
- When completing this registration form, make sure to read our physical activity notice and information on what to bring.
