Calling all handicrafters! The Knit for Food Knit-a-thon event raises money for four non-profits that help people facing food scarcity, both domestically and abroad (Meals on Wheels, No Kid Hungry, Feeding America, and World Central Kitchen). This fundraiser is like a marathon fundraiser where people volunteer to run a marathon and solicit donations from their community in support of a cause -- but instead of running, we will be knitting, crocheting, sewing, cross stitching, embroidering, yarn spinning, or any other handicraft you can think of! Participants in the Knit-a-thon will commit to crafting for a certain amount of time (up to 12 hours) in exchange for their community members donating to the Knit for Food fundraiser. 100% of the raised funds go to the four organizations.
A community meetup is being held for crafters who are participating in the event, so we can "run" our marathon together. The meetup will be hosted at Fabric of Society York. (441 E. Market St. York PA). (All donations go through the Knit for Food website.) The meetup will be held on Saturday, April 5th from 10am-10pm (crafting for the full 12 hours is not required- everyone goes as long as they choose to). There will be light snacks and drinks provided. There is an ADA compliant bathroom down the hall from the Studio, and there is a restaurant onsite.
