Alliance for the Chesapeake Bay

Who We Are

In 1971, a group of concerned citizens, representing business, agriculture, conservation, academia, and government began gathering to discuss the declining “state of the Bay” and a lack of political commitment to address it. Fifty years later, the Alliance for the Chesapeake Bay is one of the oldest and well-respected non-profits working throughout the Chesapeake Bay watershed. The Alliance restores the lands and waters of the Chesapeake Bay watershed. Our collaborative and action-oriented approach delivers on-the-ground solutions, technical assistance, and builds capacity to achieve healthier lands and cleaner water. We envision clean water and resilient landscapes, cared for by all the people who live, work, and play in the Chesapeake Bay watershed.

What We Do

With our four focused programs, Agriculture, Forestry, Green Infrastructure, and Stewardship & Engagement, the Alliance is positioned to solve downstream problems with upstream solutions. Through boots-on-the-ground solutions like tree plantings, trash clean-ups, technical assistance, and expertise, we prevent pollution where it begins – on the land – before it reaches our rivers and the Chesapeake.
