Nursery help wanted; be the first to start on the 2026 tree season! Time to clean the barn, start washing next year's pots, and performing some other odd jobs. We might even help load up the 2025 crop and send them on their way to their new homes! Join is amazing effort at a the volunteer-run nursery.

What to wear & bring

Please dress for the weather, events are rain or shine! Volunteers need to wear long pants, clothes that can get dirty, and close-toed shoes (boots recommended). We also recommend a hat, sunscreen, and gloves if you have them. Please bring water for yourself.

Accessibility

Volunteers should be prepared to walk over uneven ground, bend, stoop, kneel, dig, and do some minor lifting. Bathrooms are not available. Please follow all parking directions when arriving.

Martin Library opened on Halloween in 1935. Join us as we celebrate the changes and growth of Martin Library over the decades. Help serve literary themed mocktails, hand out treats, keep the library looking its best.

REGISTRATION AREA VOLUNTEERS (2+ PEOPLE)

Duties:

• Use the master schedule to determine which participants will be arriving for which registration time. Ensure they are at the correct registration time and check them off as they register

• Check to see if they have signed the electronic waiver in advance of arrival. (If completed, the participants’ name will be highlighted on the event schedule)

• If name is not highlighted on schedule, have them complete a paper participant waiver and bring it with them to staging

• Provide them with a wrist band (if this is the method for waiver identification)

• Provide each participant with a name tag that is clearly visible. Place name tag on their upper arm. This way the harness will not cover the tag.

• Collect all droppable items from participants including phones, keys, coins, etc.

• Send participants to Staging as they arrive.

• People will come late (and early) but do your best to keep them in their designated groups.

• The goal is to move participants through the process efficiently and quickly if participants come too early, i.e. more than 45 minutes, ask them to return at their designated registration time

STAGING AREA VOLUNTEER (1 EVENT VOLUNTEER)

Duties:

• Ask each participant to double-check their pockets and provide a safe place for these valuables to be stored until after the event.

• Manage GoPro use & charging

• Duties as assigned on-site by Over The Edge Staging Manager

GUIDES (2-5 PEOPLE)

Duties:

• Assigned to lead participant groups through different stages of the event

• Registration to staging; brings groups of 2-6 to staging and returns to registration to wait for next group.

• Staging to Training (roof); brings groups of 2-6 to the roof, returns to staging to wait for next group

• All media personnel must always have a designated non-profit volunteer with them.

LANDING ZONE (2 PEOPLE)

Duties:

• Meet rappelers at ground exclusion zone to guide them back to Staging to remove gear;

• OR meet rappelers at ground exclusion zone to take off their gear and run it back to the staging room.

ROOF TOP SECURITY (1 PERSON)

Duties:

• High level volunteer to be stationed at the last access point to the roof to ensure that only waiver volunteers and participants can access the roof.

• It is very important for this person be assertive and confident in stopping anyone trying to gain access to the roof that should not be there.

ROOF TOP RADIO PERSON (1 PERSON)

Duties:

• Volunteer stationed on the roof to let announcer know who is rappelling, when they go over and what rope they are on

• Organize participants away from the edge and ensure there is an order to who is next in line

• Communicate with the Announcer/MC who is going over and who is next

• OTE Techs will not be able to radio down to the announcer

Seeking a certified volunteer van driver to help transport students downtown to Marketview Arts for First Friday activities. The van would run a continuous loop between the Creek Crossing stop on the main campus and Marketview Arts from 5pm-9pm.

Join the Spartan Volunteer Network in cleaning up our community! Volunteers will be cleaning up trash on Jackson Street once a month. Gloves, trash pickers, and garbage bags will be provided by the Spartan Volunteer Network. All volunteers will meet at Humanities 125 prior to heading to Jackson Street.

About this Volunteer Opportunity:

For the Fall 2025 season, we're seeking volunteers to help us tend our newly-planted 10-acre riparian buffer. Hands on the land are critical as we protect water and build back biodiversity on retired farmland without the use of herbicides or large machines. Join us to learn about agroforestry, land restoration, and the Chesapeake Bay watershed while helping us ensure a thriving ecosystem for the future.

The American Veterans Honor & Reflective Remembrance Committee is seeking volunteers to assist with preparation for their large event in October. Prep volunteers would assist in stuffing goodie bags for event attendees and decorating the event space. We will begin the prep work at 10 AM, so as soon as you can arrive, it will be wonderful. I will provide pizza and bottled water for the student volunteers.

We will be holding our Annual Fall Commemoration Event at Wisehaven Event Center in York. We will be looking for at least 5 volunteers to assist with handing out tickets for raffles, 50-50 raffle, and an auction. Students will be ready to assist with registration of ticket sales, wrist banding the guests and making sure, no food is thrown away by encouraging patrons to pack leftover entrees in the takeout boxes. Wisehaven has a policy of throwing out food after an hr. out. Let's avoid this happening. We need to know if volunteers will need transportation to Wisehaven.

The event runs from 2 - 7 PM on the 11th of October, student participation can vary from 3 to 5 hrs. as you have allotted for your community support. All volunteers will be sitting at the same table and will be able to eat and enjoy the show. The entertainment will begin their setup's at 10:30 to 1:30 PM. Please arrive no later than 1:15 - 1:30.

Join the YCP Scout Club and Scouting America's New Birth of Freedom Council in running a Merit Badge College for ScoutsBSA Scouts ages 11-18. This involves helping get the scouts from place to place on campus, assisting those leading various merit badge sessions with various tasks in their classes, helping with set up or clean up of event areas, and more. Feel free to come for as long or as little time as you have during the day, we appreciate any help we can get to help educate these Scouts.

Join students at Jackson K-8 in developing their parade floats! Volunteers will be assisting students in science, Encore (specials), and WIN classes to help engineer floats for the school parade. Jackson K-8 is seeking 5-10 volunteers to help during the time blocks of 9:00-11:00am and 11:30am-1:00pm. In addition to these time blocks, volunteers should plan to attend on the day of the parade, which is scheduled for November 20th.

Martin Library hosts Santa on the First Friday in December. Last Year we had over 500 guests visit with Santa. While the families are waiting we have stations throughout the Children's Room with crafts and activities for the children and their families. We need help at each craft station, and general 'crowd control".  We want every child to have a memory of visiting Santa at Martin Library and to give their families the opportunity to learn more about the library.

The White Rose Figure Skating Club will be hosting a large skating competition, The Keystone State Games, and we need YOUR help!  This competition gives figure skaters a chance to show off the skills they have learned and compete against other skaters from surrounding areas.  This competition is entirely volunteer run and we can't make it happen, without the help of people like you!  This two day competition begins early Saturday morning (8am) and runs through the evening, ending around 9pm.  The second day begins early, around 8am, and will conclude mid afternoon.  We need volunteers to help with set up and break down, account running, and rink monitoring.  Volunteer training will be held prior to the competition so you will know exactly what to do when you arrive on the day of the competition. 

-Account Runners- This position requires a bit more physical activity.  You will be transporting documentation from the judges in the rink to the accountants upstairs where data will be imported in the computer and copied.  You will be in and out of the cold.

-Rink Monitors- This position will be inside of the rink.  You will be at a check in table where competing skaters will check in before taking the ice.  You will be responsible for keeping track of the schedule and timing and will be communicating with skaters, coaches and the judges.

** Please dress warmly- you will be in an ice rink for extended periods of time. A jacket, gloves and warm shoes are recommended! A hospitality room is available for all volunteers to grab a snack during their shift! Volunteer training will be held prior to the event so you know and understand the responsibilities of an account runner and rink monitor prior to the competition.

The York Area Ice Rink and The White Rose Figure Skating Club are excited to be hosting Adult Sectionals this year!  This large, multi day competition is solely run by volunteers and we need your help!  Volunteers can choose from 4 hour shifts doing either account running, rink monitoring, set up, or break down.  Volunteer training will be held prior to this competition so volunteers know and understand their job.

Account Runner- Will be transporting documentation from the judges in the rink to the upstairs room for the data to be imported in to computer and copied.  This person will be going in and out of the cold and will walking/climbing stairs frequently.

Rink Monitor- Will be positioned at a table inside of the rink.  You will be responsible for checking in each skater prior to their event and communicating the schedule to the skaters and coaches.  This position is inside of the rink so please dress appropriately!

** Please dress warmly - you will be in an ice rink for extended periods of time. A jacket, gloves, hat and warm shoes are recommended! A hospitality room is available for all volunteers to grab a snack during their shift! Volunteer training will be held prior to the event so you know and understand the responsibilities of an account runner and rink monitor prior to the competition.

Create "how to" and "info session" videos related to immigrant legal services. The final products are for internal and external use. Some video creation may require visiting the local offices.
