Union Lutheran Evangelical Church is opening up an after school youth program at our East campus located at 700 East Market Street, and we are seeking motivated volunteers to help! You are welcome to sign up to volunteer even if only available a few times a month. The volunteer roles we are looking to fill are as follows:

This opportunity will be working with youth in grades 4-6 on Monday’s, Wednesday’s, & Friday’s from 3:00pm-6:30pm. All volunteers will be required to have a state criminal background check, state child abuse clearance check, and FBI clearance (if you have not lived in PA for the last 10 years). We do accept clearances if you already have them for work or another volunteer  site. Clearances must be within the last two years. If you do not already have them, the PA criminal background check and child abuse clearance are both free. Olive Branch Healing (OBH) is seeking a passionate, organized, and people-oriented Volunteer Coordinator to join our mission of creating inclusive, healing spaces through the power of horses. The Volunteer Coordinator will play a key role in cultivating a welcoming and efficient volunteer program, ensuring that each person feels valued and equipped to contribute meaningfully to our vision.

Key/Primary Responsibilities:

- Learn and correctly execute the basic barn chores necessary to care for the herd on a daily basis

- Provide orientation and training to ensure volunteers understand OBH’s mission, safety protocols, and expectations

- Recruit, screen, and onboard new volunteers for a variety of roles, including barn assistance, event and program support and outreach

- Support volunteer appreciation and recognition efforts

Trinity Youth Center is seeking volunteers to mentor, tutor, and supervise participants during their after school hours! Located just 10 minutes away from YCP, volunteers will be mentoring local youth and sharing their passions at Trinity Youth Center. 

Scheduling is flexible, however a repeating schedule is preferred. Hours are Monday-Saturday 3:00pm-6:00pm during the school year and are subject to change. Volunteers are asked to complete 2 hours per volunteer shift. 

Volunteers must have their Child Abuse Clearance and a Pennsylvania Background Check.

September House is contracted with York County to deliver meals to local seniors homes who are homebound and have no family or friends who can buy them groceries or cook for them. Recently, we have increased our delivery days to 3 days per week. Volunteers are responsible for picking up the meals, following the route given, and meeting the clients at their front door. Trinity Youth Center is looking for fun, energetic people to put a new spin on learning for our 6th-12th grade youth members.

Created by Liz Morales of Morales Kitchen LLC, Cooking Up Connection is a culinary arts-based youth development program that uses food as a medium to build identity, community, and emotional wellness. Liz is seeking 1-2 volunteers to assist with capturing the youth participants while they are gaining experience in the kitchen. All materials will be provided. This is a great opportunity for student interested in media, storytelling, or service learning to gain hands-on experience.

Off The Streets York (OTSY) assists people in York County, PA who qualify, to move from homelessness into homes by assisting them with security deposits and donated furniture. If you're interested in volunteering with OTSY, register here and share your skills and strengths in your response notes. Moves typically involve loading a truck with donated furniture, go to the client's residence, unload the truck with the furniture, set up the space for the client. However, there might be a role for you that utilizes your skills! These opportunities take place on Saturday mornings as needed. The Cloverfield apartments and Kinston House, residences associated with Affordable Housing Advocates, is seeking volunteers to engage residents in chair exercises classes one day per week at both locations. Both buildings provide housing for lower income senior citizens. Scheduling is somewhat flexible.

Save lives and prevent injuries by providing free education to community members by working with paid and volunteer staff and following program guidance.

The Preparedness Division provides appropriate preparedness programming within a community to assist community members to prepare for disasters and other emergencies.

This position is responsible for the tasks involved to implement the preparedness program including:

Support the annual preparedness goals, Regional Disaster Officer (RDO) objectives, and regional/chapter plan for preparedness programming through participation in meetings, projects, and local preparedness activities
Execute assigned projects and local preparedness activities according to the activities you are trained in: Hands-Only CPR, Ready Rating or Be Red Cross Ready Presentations

Complete tasks such as implementing preparedness activities, meeting with partners to build relationships, conducting inventory, and procuring or receiving necessary preparedness supplies

Training Required
Complete all online/in-person training and review all relevant information for the Community Preparedness Education Program you are supporting (Hands-Only CPR, Ready Rating or Be Red Cross Ready Presentations). Review all preparedness program materials and guidance posted on the Exchange in the Preparedness Toolkit.

The Regional Coordinator for the International Humanitarian Law (IHL) Youth Action Campaign (YAC) coordinates the program at a regional level (61 counties in Pennsylvania). The Youth Action Campaign informs youth ages 13-24 about IHL and encourages youth to build a peer-to-peer awareness campaign on an International Humanitarian Law topic.

Key Responsibilities

• Recruit Campaign Coordinators and teams of youth IHL advocates from your region to participate in the program.
• Commit 2-4 hours a week during the implementation of the campaign.
• Report data related to metrics to regional staff in a timely manner.
• Communicate as necessary with Divisional Leadership
• Participate in the monthly call during the implementation of the program.
•Support IHL YAC Campaign Coordinators in overseeing their teams
• Ensures all Advocate teams receive training from Campaign Coordinators
• Shares programmatic guidance from NHQ with Campaign Coordiantors
• Perform other job-related duties, as assigned.

Creative Connections: Art & Heart Workshop is a fun and inclusive volunteering event where college students come together with peers with disabilities for a joyful afternoon of arts and crafts. The goal of the workshop is simple: create together, connect through creativity, and have a great time while doing it. We can supply the materials for fun and creative arts and crafts activities at an on-campus spot.

Bin Captain Responsibilities Guide

Main Responsibilities

Member Orientation: Host 1–2 short orientation sessions during the warmer months (March/April – October) to welcome new members and review composting guidelines.

Answer Questions: Respond to member emails or messages about the composting process, troubleshooting, or general program info.

Site Check-Ins: Visit the compost site periodically to make sure:

The bins are in good condition.

There are enough “browns” (carbon-rich materials like leaves or wood chips) in Bin 3 to balance food scraps.

The area stays neat and welcoming.

Commitment is only a few hours per month.

You don’t need prior composting expertise — just a willingness to learn and stay consistent.

Orientation templates and resources will be provided.

Social Activity volunteers provide social interaction with residents and possibly family members in the form of conversation, sitting with residents at meal time, playing cards or board games, reading aloud, doing crafts, and engaging in other activities. Sharing your musical talents by singing or playing an instrument, whether a “concert” or “sing-along.” Writing letters… and just listening or sitting quietly as needed. If any of this interaction is something that you enjoy, we’d love to have you.
