Help the Horn Farm Center manage our 12-acre riparian buffer while learning about perennial plants, local ecology, and ways to restore our waterways.
Overview:
- We're seeking volunteers to help us tend hundreds of trees across our growing streamside restoration site. This yearly maintenance work is critical as we reclaim 16 acres of formerly-farmed land for the revitalization of soil, water, and local habitat. We abstain from using herbicides and heavy machinery, so plenty of hands on the land are what we need to ensure the success of our plantings. As a volunteer, you'll help us achieve a lasting impact for health of local landscapes while learning about riparian buffers, native plants, agroforestry, and more.
Date & time:
- Sunday, September 15th from 1pm to 3pm
Responsibilities:
- Volunteers will help us check and adjust tree tubes, manage introduced plants, plant new tree saplings, and fortify tree bases with rocks to prevent winter vole damage.
Transportation:
- Volunteers MUST be able to provide their own transportation. Carpools will not be arranged, and a shuttle will not be available.
Supplies:
- The Community Partner will provide supplies. Volunteers who have their own gloves are encouraged to bring them.
- Make sure to dress for physical activity outdoors. Closed-toe shoes are required and long, sturdy pants are highly encouraged to safeguard against ticks. All work activities will take place outside.
