About the Pawpaw festival: On Saturday, September 28th from 9am to 5pm, the Horn Farm Center will be hosting our largest annual event: York County Pawpaw Festival, now a part of our four-day Wild & Uncommon Weekend. The Pawpaw Festival is an outdoor, family-friendly event that brings together local food vendors, artisans, native plant nurseries, and nature-based education. The centerpiece of the festival is the pawpaw: the largest edible fruit native to the Eastern United States, growing naturally right here in the Susquehanna Riverlands! Similar in taste to tropical fruits, the pawpaw is a unique, nutritious, and ecologically significant delicacy that ripens for a short period of time from mid-September to mid-October.
As an extension of the Pawpaw Festival, Wild & Uncommon Weekend (September 26-29, 2024) features regional partners across the Lower Susquehanna Riverlands to celebrate our diverse ecosystem of local foods, crafts, and natural wonders, including the pawpaw!
