What to wear & bring

Please dress for the weather, we are rain or shine! Volunteers need to wear long pants, clothes that can get dirty, and close-toed shoes (boots recommended). We also recommend a hat, sunscreen, and gloves if you have them. Please bring water for yourself.

Accessibility

Volunteers should be prepared to walk over uneven ground, bend, stoop, kneel, dig, and do some minor lifting. A planting demonstration will be given at the beginning of the event. Children of all ages are welcome to attend with their guardians. Bathrooms are not available. Please follow all parking directions when arriving.

The Title IX Office and Paranormal Club are teaming up to bring you Boo Basket Making and Healthy Relationships. This event will center healthy relationship education in fun activities that allow students to fill up a Halloween-themed basket and will run from 2pm-4pm on October 24th at Creek Crossing, across from Humanities and next to the bridge. 

We are looking for roughly 16 YCP student volunteers to help staff 8 activities. These volunteers will be asked to run a healthy-relationship based activity. The instructions for all activities will be provided at the event. Volunteers will be asked to arrive at 1:30pm to help set up and are asked to help clean up their activity from 4pm-4:30pm.

The Women's Care Center is seeking consistent volunteers to care for the children of parents attending their class on Thursday evenings from 5:00-6:00pm. Located minutes down the road from West Campus, this reoccurring opportunity is perfect for volunteers interested in working with youth, those who have a tight schedule, or those who may need assistance with transportation.

Join students at Jackson K-8 in developing their parade floats! Volunteers will be assisting students in science, Encore (specials), and WIN classes to help engineer floats for the school parade. Jackson K-8 is seeking 5-10 volunteers to help during the time blocks of 9:00-11:00am and 11:30am-1:00pm. In addition to these time blocks, volunteers should plan to attend on the day of the parade, which is scheduled for November 20th.

Seeking a certified volunteer van driver to help transport students downtown to Marketview Arts for First Friday activities. The van would run a continuous loop between the Creek Crossing stop on the main campus and Marketview Arts from 5pm-9pm.

Martin Library hosts Santa on the First Friday in December. Last Year we had over 500 guests visit with Santa. While the families are waiting we have stations throughout the Children's Room with crafts and activities for the children and their families. We need help at each craft station, and general 'crowd control".  We want every child to have a memory of visiting Santa at Martin Library and to give their families the opportunity to learn more about the library.

Volunteers will help take down the winter decorations at Devers Community Garden. 

When: Saturday, February 7th, 2026 | 11:00am-12:00pm

The White Rose Figure Skating Club will be hosting a large skating competition, The Keystone State Games, and we need YOUR help!  This competition gives figure skaters a chance to show off the skills they have learned and compete against other skaters from surrounding areas.  This competition is entirely volunteer run and we can't make it happen, without the help of people like you!  This two day competition begins early Saturday morning (8am) and runs through the evening, ending around 9pm.  The second day begins early, around 8am, and will conclude mid afternoon.  We need volunteers to help with set up and break down, account running, and rink monitoring.  Volunteer training will be held prior to the competition so you will know exactly what to do when you arrive on the day of the competition. 

-Account Runners- This position requires a bit more physical activity.  You will be transporting documentation from the judges in the rink to the accountants upstairs where data will be imported in the computer and copied.  You will be in and out of the cold.

-Rink Monitors- This position will be inside of the rink.  You will be at a check in table where competing skaters will check in before taking the ice.  You will be responsible for keeping track of the schedule and timing and will be communicating with skaters, coaches and the judges.

** Please dress warmly- you will be in an ice rink for extended periods of time. A jacket, gloves and warm shoes are recommended! A hospitality room is available for all volunteers to grab a snack during their shift! Volunteer training will be held prior to the event so you know and understand the responsibilities of an account runner and rink monitor prior to the competition.

The York Area Ice Rink and The White Rose Figure Skating Club are excited to be hosting Adult Sectionals this year!  This large, multi day competition is solely run by volunteers and we need your help!  Volunteers can choose from 4 hour shifts doing either account running, rink monitoring, set up, or break down.  Volunteer training will be held prior to this competition so volunteers know and understand their job.

Volunteer with hospice patients at long term care facilities in York! Volunteers visit with hospice patients on a weekly basis to provide companionship. Volunteers can chat with hospice patients about every day topics, read to them, help them write letters, work on a craft together, puzzles, or enjoy listening to music together.

Volunteers are vital to our organization and we appreciate any time our volunteers can provide to our patients. Mileage reimbursement is provided.

We are looking for volunteers to be part of the audio visual (AV) ministry at St. Joseph Church.

For this volunteer project, you would run the slides and/or the livestream during one Sunday Mass per month. 

We most need help during our 9 AM Sunday Mass, which is both slides and the livestream. We also do have opportunity during our 5 PM Saturday Vigil Mass, which is slides only on our big screens.

Training will be provided at your convenience with our Communications Professional, as well as instructions shared so you can review.

You don't need to be Catholic to volunteer, but knowledge of the Catholic Mass, or willingness to learn, will be helpful in this role. We do have instructions to help you with the slides if you aren't as familiar.

About Momentum: Momentum is a science-based movement class at the York JCC for those with neuro-cognitive conditions, including Parkinson’s, Alzheimer’s, Huntington’s, Multiple Sclerosis, stroke, brain trauma, and more. Learn more about the Momentum Program at the York JCC here!

Volunteer responsibilities: The Momentum Program has a dedicated, trained instructor for each class. In general, volunteers will provide support to the instructor and to class participants. Volunteers may be asked to help with one or more of the following responsibilities.

Founded in 2015, The Movement of York helps connect people to the resources they seek.

Every Saturday we open our Food Pantry to the public, handing out various food and household items to families in need.

Volunteers are needed on Saturdays from 3-5pm. In addition to signing up in the SVN portal, volunteers must ALSO complete the Movement's Volunteer Signup Form (CLICK HERE) for each shift they're interested in. If the signup form indicates that the shift is full for a particular day, please do not sign up for that shift.  

Volunteers are expected to provide their own transportation for this project. There is parking for volunteers in the parking lot behind The Movement. We recommend you dress for the weather, as some of our families need help carrying their items to their vehicles.

About York Literacy Institute: The York Literacy Institute provides literacy services to adults of York County. We provide tutoring and classes for GED students, and English as a Second Language Students. Our Next Step Program helps students prepare for employment opportunities.

Volunteer description: As a newly trained tutor, you will be matched with a student to meet weekly for 60-90 minute sessions at a public location. Tutors assist Adult Reading and English as a Second Language students to improve their basic literacy skills by preparing lessons, giving homework, and encouraging their student through the learning process. Tutoring may take place in person or through remote learning.

York’s Quantum Opportunity Program (QOP) is a free after-school program open to all students in grades 8-12, receiving free or reduced lunch, living in the City of York. QOP provides one-on-one and group mentoring and focuses on three areas: academic achievement, community service and personal growth.

Overview: Harvest of Blessing is a food and clothing pantry in downtown York. Volunteers are needed for distribution days!

Hours: Harvest of Blessing operates at the following times:

Volunteer schedule: It is very helpful when volunteers can commit to regular shifts (ie weekly, biweekly, or monthly). However, volunteer scheduling is flexible, and Harvest of Blessing can work with volunteers to figure out a schedule that works for them. 

Skills needed: No specific skills are required to volunteer! However, Harvest of Blessing is especially in need of volunteers who are Spanish speakers or French speakers.

IMPORTANT: Pantry is open to college students! If you are a YCP student and you can't afford food, clothing, or hygiene supplies right now, you are invited to visit Harvest of Blessing to get what you need.

The role of the ES is to provide quality care, handling and maintenance of the OBH herd.

Volunteer(s) in this role will be responsible for the day to day operations pertaining to barn work. Tasks include but are not limited to mucking stalls, feed/turnout, cleaning tack, sweeping/knocking down cobwebs, picking arena/pasture, and general upkeep of the facility. Volunteering in this role is a great way for both new and seasoned horse enthusiasts to spend time working with horses.

Barn shifts are 2-3 hours long, morning and early evening. We have morning and evening shifts.

NEEDED: TUTORS FOR CHILDREN IN GRADES 1-6

The York Conference of Lutherans Tutoring Program is seeking volunteer tutors to work one-on-one with students on Monday or Tuesday evenings during the upcoming school year! 

We need people who are willing to assist elementary grade students with homework, read with them, help them learn spelling, math facts, etc. If you like young people and want to make a difference in the life of a young person, then this is for you!!!

Tutors over 18 must apply for clearances, but there is no charge to you as a volunteer.

Can’t commit every week? We always need substitutes!

Note: One of our primary goals is to maintain the health and safety of our tutors and students. We will be following the guidance of the PA Dept. of Education and the PA Health Dept. regarding safety protocols.

Overview: McKinley School is looking for students who are willing to volunteer time to work with their students on classwork or homework. McKinley is only a couple of blocks from the York College campus, so YCP volunteers can easily walk from campus! 

Schedule: Times can be flexible -- either during the school day or after school.

Clearances: Prior to starting their tutoring schedule, volunteers must be able to submit updated standard clearances, including a PA background check, a child abuse history clearance, and a fingerprint-based FBI background check (for anyone with an out-of-state permanent address).

Overview | PA-MEDI is the State Health Insurance Assistance Program. Trained volunteers provide free, unbiased insurance counseling to people on Medicare, assist with comparing plans, educate, advocate, and make appropriate referrals.

Responsibilities | Duties will be completed at a local counseling site and by phone. In addition to insurance counseling, volunteers assist with community education and promotional activities, including seminars and other community events. Applicants that have licensure to sell insurance or other financial products will not be eligible to volunteer for this opportunity.

York County Senior Centers need volunteers to help deliver and prepare Home Delivered Meals throughout all areas of York County. Meals are currently delivered three days per week on Monday-Wednesday-Friday. The time commitment is flexible from one 3-4 hour shift per month to multiple 3- 4 hour shifts per month.  Drivers are assigned a designated route for delivery. Delivery drivers pick up the meals by 10:00am at local senior centers and deliver meals throughout the area. They check in face-to-face with the older adults at the time of the meal deliveries. Several local centers also need kitchen help preparing and packing the meals.  Volunteers must possess a valid driver’s license and current vehicle insurance. Support a 15–24-year-old refugee in their education, career, and personal goals by building a friendship and helping them feel at home in the U.S. Volunteers meet with their mentees for 1 hour/week for a year, at a time and place that works for both. Clearances are required. Volunteers must provide their own transportation.

Do you enjoy playing Foosball, Pool, and/or Ping Pong?  Join the Martin Teens Team and help the kids learn the rules and coach them through developing skills to become a better player!  

Working around your schedule, we are looking for up to 4 volunteers to coach the teens for 2 hours a week (1 volunteer per day Mon - Thur) between the hours of 3 - 6 pm.  We are willing to work with your schedule!  Hone your coaching and management skills while playing games that you love!

Union Lutheran Evangelical Church is opening up an after school youth program at our East campus located at 700 East Market Street, and we are seeking motivated volunteers to help! You are welcome to sign up to volunteer even if only available a few times a month. The volunteer roles we are looking to fill are as follows:

This opportunity will be working with youth in grades 4-6 on Monday’s, Wednesday’s, & Friday’s from 3:00pm-6:30pm. All volunteers will be required to have a state criminal background check, state child abuse clearance check, and FBI clearance (if you have not lived in PA for the last 10 years). We do accept clearances if you already have them for work or another volunteer  site. Clearances must be within the last two years. If you do not already have them, the PA criminal background check and child abuse clearance are both free. This role is relaxed and will have down time that you can do schoolwork, read a book, etc.

Dress would be business casual as you will be the first face a visitor sees. Jeans with a nice top, polo. No rips, etc. No flip flops.

There may be opportunity for other office related tasks.

Hours needed are Monday, Wednesday, Thursday & Friday 8am until noon. We are closed major holidays. There are occasionally other hours that we may need as they come up. This opportunity can be for more than one person.
