Seeking volunteers to help cleanup (including weed whacking) the Cemetery on Saturday, September 13th between 9:00am-1:00pm. Volunteers should wear pants, closed toed shoes, and clothing they can get dirty. All volunteers must provide their own transportation for this event. 

One of the largest events held at Martin Library each year celebrates and welcomes new members to our community. Presented in collaboration with the YMCA of the Roses and Welcoming Week, Martin Library celebrates the art, music and food of our community. The library could use assistance with serving food, registering guests, basic crowd control, trash pick up etc. Groups are welcome.

Join us in helping clean and maintain the rain gardens on Jackson Street in York! Volunteers will be assigned a task upon arrival, which may include weeding, removing debris, spreading mulch, and helping with general garden upkeep.

About the Pawpaw festival: On Saturday, September 20th from 9am to 5pm, the Horn Farm Center will host our largest annual event: the 21st Annual York County Pawpaw Festival.

This outdoor, family-friendly event brings together local food vendors, artisans, native plant nurseries, and nature-based educators. The centerpiece of the festival is the pawpaw: the largest edible fruit indigenous to the Eastern United States, growing naturally throughout the Susquehanna Riverlands! Similar in taste to tropical fruits, the pawpaw is a unique, nutritious, and ecologically significant delicacy that ripens for a short period of time from mid-September to mid-October.

Kreutz Creek Library needs volunteers to help set up their semiannual fundraiser book sale in September! Help is needed to transfer books from storage at the Library to the book sale venue, Hellam Township Public Works Building, close by. The boxes of books are loaded onto a truck and then unloaded at the sale location.

REGISTRATION AREA VOLUNTEERS (2+ PEOPLE)

Duties:

• Use the master schedule to determine which participants will be arriving for which registration time. Ensure they are at the correct registration time and check them off as they register

• Check to see if they have signed the electronic waiver in advance of arrival. (If completed, the participants’ name will be highlighted on the event schedule)

• If name is not highlighted on schedule, have them complete a paper participant waiver and bring it with them to staging

• Provide them with a wrist band (if this is the method for waiver identification)

• Provide each participant with a name tag that is clearly visible. Place name tag on their upper arm. This way the harness will not cover the tag.

• Collect all droppable items from participants including phones, keys, coins, etc.

• Send participants to Staging as they arrive.

• People will come late (and early) but do your best to keep them in their designated groups.

• The goal is to move participants through the process efficiently and quickly if participants come too early, i.e. more than 45 minutes, ask them to return at their designated registration time

STAGING AREA VOLUNTEER (1 EVENT VOLUNTEER)

Duties:

• Ask each participant to double-check their pockets and provide a safe place for these valuables to be stored until after the event.

• Manage GoPro use & charging

• Duties as assigned on-site by Over The Edge Staging Manager

GUIDES (2-5 PEOPLE)

Duties:

• Assigned to lead participant groups through different stages of the event

• Registration to staging; brings groups of 2-6 to staging and returns to registration to wait for next group.

• Staging to Training (roof); brings groups of 2-6 to the roof, returns to staging to wait for next group

• All media personnel must always have a designated non-profit volunteer with them.

LANDING ZONE (2 PEOPLE)

Duties:

• Meet rappelers at ground exclusion zone to guide them back to Staging to remove gear;

• OR meet rappelers at ground exclusion zone to take off their gear and run it back to the staging room.

ROOF TOP SECURITY (1 PERSON)

Duties:

• High level volunteer to be stationed at the last access point to the roof to ensure that only waiver volunteers and participants can access the roof.

• It is very important for this person be assertive and confident in stopping anyone trying to gain access to the roof that should not be there.

ROOF TOP RADIO PERSON (1 PERSON)

Duties:

• Volunteer stationed on the roof to let announcer know who is rappelling, when they go over and what rope they are on

• Organize participants away from the edge and ensure there is an order to who is next in line

• Communicate with the Announcer/MC who is going over and who is next

• OTE Techs will not be able to radio down to the announcer

The American Veterans Honor & Reflective Remembrance Committee is seeking volunteers to assist with preparation for their large event in October. Prep volunteers would assist in stuffing goodie bags for event attendees and decorating the event space.

Martin Library hosts Santa on the First Friday in December. Last Year we had over 500 guests visit with Santa. While the families are waiting we have stations throughout the Children's Room with crafts and activities for the children and their families. We need help at each craft station, and general 'crowd control".  We want every child to have a memory of visiting Santa at Martin Library and to give their families the opportunity to learn more about the library.

The White Rose Figure Skating Club will be hosting a large skating competition, The Keystone State Games, and we need YOUR help!  This competition gives figure skaters a chance to show off the skills they have learned and compete against other skaters from surrounding areas.  This competition is entirely volunteer run and we can't make it happen, without the help of people like you!  This two day competition begins early Saturday morning (8am) and runs through the evening, ending around 9pm.  The second day begins early, around 8am, and will conclude mid afternoon.  We need volunteers to help with set up and break down, account running, and rink monitoring.  Volunteer training will be held prior to the competition so you will know exactly what to do when you arrive on the day of the competition. 

-Account Runners- This position requires a bit more physical activity.  You will be transporting documentation from the judges in the rink to the accountants upstairs where data will be imported in the computer and copied.  You will be in and out of the cold.

-Rink Monitors- This position will be inside of the rink.  You will be at a check in table where competing skaters will check in before taking the ice.  You will be responsible for keeping track of the schedule and timing and will be communicating with skaters, coaches and the judges.

** Please dress warmly- you will be in an ice rink for extended periods of time. A jacket, gloves and warm shoes are recommended! A hospitality room is available for all volunteers to grab a snack during their shift! Volunteer training will be held prior to the event so you know and understand the responsibilities of an account runner and rink monitor prior to the competition.

The York Area Ice Rink and The White Rose Figure Skating Club are excited to be hosting Adult Sectionals this year!  This large, multi day competition is solely run by volunteers and we need your help!  Volunteers can choose from 4 hour shifts doing either account running, rink monitoring, set up, or break down.  Volunteer training will be held prior to this competition so volunteers know and understand their job.

Account Runner- Will be transporting documentation from the judges in the rink to the upstairs room for the data to be imported in to computer and copied.  This person will be going in and out of the cold and will walking/climbing stairs frequently.

Rink Monitor- Will be positioned at a table inside of the rink.  You will be responsible for checking in each skater prior to their event and communicating the schedule to the skaters and coaches.  This position is inside of the rink so please dress appropriately!

** Please dress warmly - you will be in an ice rink for extended periods of time. A jacket, gloves, hat and warm shoes are recommended! Volunteer with hospice patients at long term care facilities in York! Volunteers visit with hospice patients on a weekly basis to provide companionship. Marrow for More is a volunteer team that encourages YCP students to join the Blood Marrow Donor Registry. This involves setting up registration tables and other opportunities through the year!

We are looking for volunteers to be part of the audio visual (AV) ministry at St. Joseph Church.

For this volunteer project, you would run the slides and/or the livestream during one Sunday Mass per month. 

We most need help during our 9 AM Sunday Mass, which is both slides and the livestream. We also do have opportunity during our 5 PM Saturday Vigil Mass, which is slides only on our big screens.

Training will be provided at your convenience with our Communications Professional, as well as instructions shared so you can review.

You don't need to be Catholic to volunteer, but knowledge of the Catholic Mass, or willingness to learn, will be helpful in this role. We do have instructions to help you with the slides if you aren't as familiar.

About Momentum: Momentum is a science-based movement class at the York JCC for those with neuro-cognitive conditions, including Parkinson’s, Alzheimer’s, Huntington’s, Multiple Sclerosis, stroke, brain trauma, and more. Learn more about the Momentum Program at the York JCC here!

Founded in 2015, The Movement of York helps connect people to the resources they seek.

Every Saturday we open our Food Pantry to the public, handing out various food and household items to families in need.

Volunteers are needed on Saturdays from 3-5pm. In addition to signing up in the SVN portal, volunteers must ALSO complete the Movement's Volunteer Signup Form (CLICK HERE) for each shift they're interested in. If the signup form indicates that the shift is full for a particular day, please do not sign up for that shift.  

Volunteers are expected to provide their own transportation for this project. There is parking for volunteers in the parking lot behind The Movement. We recommend you dress for the weather, as some of our families need help carrying their items to their vehicles.

About York Literacy Institute: The York Literacy Institute provides literacy services to adults of York County. We provide tutoring and classes for GED students, and English as a Second Language Students. Our Next Step Program helps students prepare for employment opportunities.

Volunteer description: As a newly trained tutor, you will be matched with a student to meet weekly for 60-90 minute sessions at a public location. Tutors assist Adult Reading and English as a Second Language students to improve their basic literacy skills by preparing lessons, giving homework, and encouraging their student through the learning process. The York Conference of Lutherans Tutoring Program is seeking volunteer tutors to work one-on-one with students on Monday or Tuesday evenings during the upcoming school year! 

We need people who are willing to assist elementary grade students with homework, read with them, help them learn spelling, math facts, etc. If you like young people and want to make a difference in the life of a young person, then this is for you!!!

Tutors over 18 must apply for clearances, but there is no charge to you as a volunteer.

Overview | PA-MEDI is the State Health Insurance Assistance Program. Trained volunteers provide free, unbiased insurance counseling to people on Medicare, assist with comparing plans, educate, advocate, and make appropriate referrals.

Responsibilities | Duties will be completed at a local counseling site and by phone. In addition to insurance counseling, volunteers assist with community education and promotional activities, including seminars and other community events. Applicants that have licensure to sell insurance or other financial products will not be eligible to volunteer for this opportunity.

York County Senior Centers need volunteers to help deliver and prepare Home Delivered Meals throughout all areas of York County. Meals are currently delivered three days per week on Monday-Wednesday-Friday. The time commitment is flexible from one 3-4 hour shift per month to multiple 3- 4 hour shifts per month.  Drivers are assigned a designated route for delivery. Delivery drivers pick up the meals by 10:00am at local senior centers and deliver meals throughout the area. They check in face-to-face with the older adults at the time of the meal deliveries. Several local centers also need kitchen help preparing and packing the meals.  Volunteers must possess a valid driver’s license and current vehicle insurance. Being a full time caregiver is tough. If you or someone you know has recently gone through the process of caring for an elder full time, you know how physically and emotionally straining it can be. Here at Gentiva Hospice, we have volunteers who can help with caregiver relief. This means trained volunteers go out and sit with patients so family members can get out of the house, run errands, and have time to themselves. We're on a mission to honor the lives of our patients by sharing their stories and giving families these stories as a keep sake. We are in need of companionship volunteers to see patients on a regular basis and assist them with filling out memory booklets. Gentiva Hospice has an opportunity open to be part of our administrative team! This position involves simple administrative tasks such as, but not limited to: filing, cutting, experience with word, creating simple notes/cards, coming up with creative ideas, and experience with craft projects is a must! Some tasks can be done at home if you have access to a computer and printer. This position will lead the way for special office projects and create involvement throughout the process.
