Volunteer: Seeking Compost Captains!

Bin Captain Responsibilities Guide

Thank you for helping keep York greener! This program only works because of dedicated volunteers like you. The role is flexible, a few hours per month, and makes a lasting impact on our community.

Main Responsibilities

Member Orientation: Host 1–2 short orientation sessions during the warmer months (March/April – October) to welcome new members and review composting guidelines.

Answer Questions: Respond to member emails or messages about the composting process, troubleshooting, or general program info.

Site Check-Ins: Visit the compost site periodically to make sure:

The bins are in good condition.

There are enough “browns” (carbon-rich materials like leaves or wood chips) in Bin 3 to balance food scraps.

The area stays neat and welcoming.

Additional Notes

Commitment is only a few hours per month.

You don’t need prior composting expertise — just a willingness to learn and stay consistent.

Orientation templates and resources will be provided.

Contact: alexia.purkanto@gmail.com with any questions

Your support ensures York Community Compost Co-Ops continues to thrive. Thank you for carrying this mission forward and helping create a healthier, greener future for York.
