Volunteer: SpartanGreen: Riparian Buffer Workday at the Horn Farm Center (4/19/2026)About the organization: Since 2018, the Horn Farm Center has planted over 17,000 trees across 16 acres to heal soils, protect water, and revitalize biodiversity. While our volunteer-supported planting efforts have wrapped up, there is still plenty of maintenance to do in order to ensure the health and vitality of our budding ecosystems. To learn more about riparian buffers and the Horn Farm's efforts to rebuild nature's resilience while supporting community agriculture, visit our blog: For the Whole Stream Volunteer responsibilities: We're seeking volunteers to help us tend new plants in our riparian buffer. Since we refrain from using herbicides or heavy machinery to manage restoration projects, hands on the land are critical in order to ensure we can restore soil, protect water, and support thriving biodiversity on and beyond our landscape. Workday tasks will vary depending on progress in previous volunteer workdays. Activities may include spreading leaf and woodchip mulch, managing overgrowth, and checking up on tree tubes,. Site notes: Materials like work gloves, loppers, pruners, and other tools will be provided. This workday will take place fully outdoors in semi-wild environments. Please check the weather in advance and dress for moderate work. Be prepared for walking on uneven terrain with potentially muddy conditions. We encourage volunteers to bring a reusable water cannister (refills are available on site) and any snacks they might like to have during the work session.During this workday, you'll have the chance to learn about land restoration, perennial plants, agroforestry, and approaches to protecting our watershed. The Horn Farm Center is located in Hellam, about 10 minutes east of downtown York. Our address is 4945 Horn Road, York, PA 17406. Volunteer Waiver: By signing up for this workday, you acknowledge receipt of the Horn Farm Center's Volunteer Waiver and Release Form.
